KN20 The Marseillaise for violin solo

deutsch KN20 Die Marseillaise für Violine solo

KN20 La Marseillaise [1919]

Arrangement pour violon solo – La Marseillaise. Arrangement für Solo-Violine – La Marseillaise. Arrangement for violin solo

Remarks: This arrangement of the French national anthem was written by Strawinsky on New Year’s Day (1st January) 1919 in Morges and remained unpublished during his lifetime. It cannot be ruled out that the reason for its composition may have its roots in a New Year’s joke. The arrangement is constructed in two parts, and Strawinsky invented individual figurations as the accompaniment in the second part. On 13th November 1979, the work was premièred in the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London by Kyung-Wha-Chung. The sketch for the work is located in the Paul Sacher Stiftung in Basel.
